Susana Santos Silva

Susana Santos Silva is a trumpeter, improviser and composer from Porto (Portugal). She holds a Master Diploma in Jazz Performance from Codarts (Rotterdam), a Graduate Diploma in Jazz/Trumpet from College of Music and Performing Arts in Porto and a Graduate Diploma in Trumpet from the same institute, attending the last year at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in the class of Prof. Reinhold Friedrich. She is a member and co-founder of the Porto-based association Porta-Jazz and its label Carimbo. In 2010 she recorded her first album as a leader of her own Quintet Devil´s Dress, released in 2011 on TOAP Records. With this band she played 12 Points Jazz Festival, Dublin in 2011. Her current projects include Duos with Torbjörn Zetterberg, Kaja Draksler and Jorge Queijo, the trio LAMA (also featuring Chris Speed and Joachim Badenhorst), her new quintet Impermanence and a collaboration with de Belgian trio De Beren Gieren. As a side woman she is part of Coreto Porta-Jazz, João Guimarães Zero and the Torbjörn Zetterberg Och Den Stora Frågan. She is a member of Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos since 1996. With this orchestra she played with Lee Konitz, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Chris Cheek, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Dan Weiss, Gerald Cleaver, John Hollenbeck, Theo Bleckman, Jordi Rossi, Guillermo Klein, Maria Schneider, Jim Black among many others. She has performed in Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Kosovo, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, USA, Uruguay and Argentina.
